Introducción

MV BANGLAR SAMRIDDHI got stuck in a war zone in Olivia Port, Ukraine. We informed the ITF right away to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the vessel MV BANGLAR SAMRIDDHI. The ITF took the matter very seriously: they contacted the IMO directly and demanded the IMO provide all necessary assistance ASAP.

On 2 March, the ship was attacked by a rocket while anchored outside Olivia Port. Late Third Engineer Hadisur Rahman was burnt to death on the spot at the time of the missile attack on the bridge. Bangladeshi seafarers onboard the Banglar Samriddhi were repatriated after the ship's third engineer was killed in a missile attack.

Merchant Marine officers demanded the release of the probe report on the missile attack on the Bangladeshi vessel Banglar Samriddhi, abandoned and floating near Olvia port in Ukraine.

A donation cheque for 1,000,000 Bangladeshi Taka was sent to the late Hadisur Rahman’s family, this came from members and the ITF Seafarers’ Trust Emergency Fund. Several press conferences were organised by BMMOA, demanding a death compensation, and at last, after many conferences, media articles and in-person follow-ups with the relevant authorities, legitimate rights for the late Hadisur Rahman were successfully obtained. His family received USD 500,000 in compensation from the government.

The above story is a reminder that we must increase rights, raise legal awareness, and inspire people to work towards change. Taking steps with the union, and focusing on collaboration, self-confidence and pre-planning before any job. Start volunteering if nobody helps.

It is a story to inspire young folks and to highlight the importance of unions. Gain strength and decision-making power, knowing what to do and how to do it. Plan every step. Learn clearly before planning.

Reflexiones

We must increase rights, raise legal awareness, and inspire people to work towards change. Taking steps with the union, and focusing on collaboration, self-confidence and pre-planning before any job. Start volunteering if nobody helps.

It is a story to inspire young folks and to highlight the importance of unions. Gain strength and decision-making power. Plan every step. Learn clearly before planning.

Do not give up, be positive and work together. Engage with your union. Increase the union’s power to take any kind of positive, helpful decision.

I hope they become more powerful from within to be forward thinking and inspirational and to be smart in order to build a smarter future for workers with a peaceful argument within the right channels.

Mis próximos pasos

I hope the younger generation will come up with good deeds and learn how to lead during an emergency and how to take decisions when needed. Unions should train them to make them an asset for the future and educate them to communicate with other nationalities smartly and remarkably.

What does the audience think? In the face of an emergency, is it necessary to be united from the core and is it necessary to involve newcomers at work so that they know the system to accomplish emergency calls?
