The strike is about a protest against unfavourable working conditions relating to our employment in the port of Greenville. We the employees of the above mentioned port halted work for several days so that our employer could listen to our plights and take positive actions towards our concerns. By striking for a few days was the best action we could take since we have failed through several negotiations.
By striking for a few days was the last action we could take since we have failed through several negotiations. Members of the DOCKER’S UNION III of this company had been suspended from work because they advocated for our rights. Therefore, striking was the only way that we could move forward.
The employees of the Port of Greenville had several written benefits in the initial contracts that were bridged by their Employer. Examples: Employees were underpaid for their overtime working hours and leave allowances were not paid. The importance of sharing this story is to make people aware of what happens or is happening to workers. It also highlights SOLIDARITY. With unity, our voices were heard faster. A shared strike story can influence policy discussions and societal changes to benefit workers.
It was a cloudy night when the employees were stopped from working their night shift by the union president. There was a huge vessel import that had just breath all tools down and turn off equipment, says the president, the crane, we stack us empty container handlers and all vehicles were packed due to the President's mandate. We were told that there was a strike until the senior management team can address the issues and concerns of her employees by the morning hours, the day shift, employees became a part of the strike, and it became disorderly. Police and security personnel were called by the employer to put the situation under control, but the force and togetherness of Employees made those securities to push back.

After seven days of employees not working. It raised concerns on several radio, TV stations and online platforms in the country, which made our employer compelled to bargain with her employees to put things under control. Finally, those benefits, allowances and policies that were breached by the management team was settled and retroactive payments were made to the workers.
The story emphasizes of collective actions. It shows how team work can make meaningful change. An advice to my audience is: TEAMWORK MAKES THE GAME WORK
With what I experience during the strike, I would like to be a part of the youth leadership within the next union’s leadership to make some important decisions for workers.
